PAINTED KITCHEN E Ardingly, East Sussex
This project, a complete replacement of an existing older-style kitchen, has two main centrepieces – a Mercury range cooker and an island, serving as a prep area and replacing the table as the main eating space in the kitchen.
Woodworks created the surround and mantle for the cooker and this includes a hidden extractor recessed into the mantle which also provides lighting. The island is part prep area with a honed granite top and part kitchen table with seating, supplied by a circular ‘drum table’ in oiled oak, stained to match the existing oak doors in the rest of the kitchen.
A worktop crockery cupboard discreetly hides the microwave and coffee machine in one corner and a ‘magic corner’ storage mechanism uses otherwise dead space on the opposite wall. The light painted wooden units and large, pale flagstones add to the sense of space in the room.
