WALNUT KITCHEN B Chailey, East Sussex
This project was a large extension to a period cottage overlooking a nature reserve. The idea was to create a large kitchen with a separate area for family dining at one end.
The final design provided the clients with a space four times the size of their previous kitchen.
Our clients wanted a classic, spacious and functional kitchen to accommodate a growing family. The finished design included a large rectangular island and a separate dining area which, as well as using available space efficiently, created areas distinct from - though close enough to - the cooking zone.
Although functional, the design didn’t compromise on
aesthetics. A warm American walnut was used for the cabinets and granite in Star Galaxy was used for the work surfaces. The inclusion of mirrored plinths, glass splashbacks and internally lit, glazed cabinets to accommodate a range of vases made the space light, elegant and sophisticated.
